Gerardo Parra’s two-run homer off Carlos Martinez put the Arizona Diamondbacks up 2-1 in the eighth, their first runs in 17 innings, after Adam Wainwright’s one-hitter Tuesday. The lead didn’t last long as pinch hitter Jon Jay’s sacrifice fly off Brad Ziegler tied it in the bottom half.  The Cardinals won it in the 12th, 3-2.

Matt Holliday walked off Trevor Cahill (1-6) to start the 12th. Matt Adams doubled, and Yadier Molina was walked intentionally.  Allen Craig then hit a grounder to shortstop Chris Owings, but his throw was off the mark allowing Holliday to score the winning run.

Craig gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead in the fourth when he singled home Holliday.

The Cardinals loaded the bases in the bottom of the 10th against rookie Evan Marshall but couldn’t push across the winning run.
