These two pitchers in the majors have 14 road wins since the start of last season and we can brag that both are from the state of Missouri. James Shields of the Royals and Adam Wainwright of the Cardinals each won on Wednesday, passing C.J. Wilson of the L.A. Angels.  Each pitcher got plenty of offensive support in their road wins on Wednesday.

Before Shields even took the mound in San Diego, his teammates spotted him a 3-0 lead, as the Royals went on to beat the Padres 8-0. Eric Hosmer had a big day at the plate, going 3 for 4 with four RBIs. For the three game series, Hosmer went 7 for 15 with seven RBIs.  Shields pitched seven innings, allowing seven hits and striking out four. He’s now 4-3 on the season and lowers his ERA to 2.70.

Wainwright, pitching against the team he grew up cheering for, got touched for one run in the third inning, but he cruised through eight innings allowing six hits and a walk while striking out six. The offense gave him a nice cushion by the fifth inning in a 7-1 win over the Atlanta Braves. Matt Carpenter, Matt Holliday and Peter Bourjos all had three hits. Bourjos hit his first homer. Holliday drove in three. Holliday had a great series going 6 for 13 with five RBIs.

An off day for the Cardinals, who are one game above .500 and four behind Milwaukee. The Redbirds in Pittsburgh this weekend. The Royals a game under .500, six behind Detroit. They’re in Seattle for a four game series starting Thursday.
