There was no bullpen implosion in the series finale against the Brewers on Wednesday afternoon thanks to the bats waking up. After squandering leads in the first two extra-inning losses, the Cardinals offense delivered a 9-3 win Wednesday afternoon over Milwaukee to take some pressure off the pitching.

No worries about doing the little things that must have been keeping Mike Matheny up late at night. We caught a glimpse of what this Cardinals offense can be with Allen Craig and Matt Adams having big days. Craig homered on a four-hit day that included three RBIs, and Matt Adams hit a three-run homer.

“I’ve been feeling pretty good at the plate for a little while now, hitting some balls hard,” Craig said. “Frustration’s part of it. Things are going to turn around.”

Shelby Miller got the victory, but also allowed two more home runs that fortunately were solo shots. Miller did double in a run and score to help his own cause. It wasn’t the type of month that the Cardinals may have wanted to start the season, meddling through a 15-14 start, but May starts with a weekend trip in Chicago.

After Wednesday’s victory, things suddenly look up for the Cardinals offense.
