Jonathan Toews scored on a breakaway 7:36 into overtime Friday to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 3-2 win over the Blues in Game 5 of their series at Scottrade Center.

The Blackhawks have won three games in a row to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series and now have a chance to close out the series in Game 6 on Sunday at United Center.

This was the first time in six tries that Chicago has won against the Blues in St. Louis.

Blues captain David Backes returned after suffering an injury earlier in the series and came in along the right side and fired a shot off Hawks goalie Corey Crawford. The long rebound came out in front of the net and defenseman Duncan Keith swatted the puck out of the zone. The puck hit a Blues player and careened to center ice where Toews just jumped on for a line change. He went in alone on Ryan Miller and deked to his backhand sliding the puck past Miller’s left leg and the post.

Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford made 27 saves and gave up goals to T.J. Oshie midway through the second period, when he scored on a backhanded shot from his knees and then defenseman Alex Pietrangelo scored on a 2-on-1 rush that tied the game 2-2.

Marian Hossa and Ben Smith also scored for the Blackhawks. Miller made 27 saves.
