Redshirt junior linebacker Kentrell Brothers is undergoing shoulder surgery today for a torn labrum and will miss the remainder of spring practices which start up again next Tuesday as the team returns from spring break.

Brothers, the projected starting middle linebacker, will replace Andrew Wilson. Last season, Brothers had 70 tackles, 6.5 for loss and four interceptions. Brothers was named the Southeastern Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week during the Tigers 41-26 victory over then No. 7 Georgia. Brothers picked off Bulldog quarterback Aaron Murray inside the final minute for his third pick of the season. He also had a career-high 10 tackles in the game.

You’ll recall quarterback James Franklin had surgery during the spring before the 2012 season for a torn labrum, and was ready by the beginning of the season that fall. No timetable has been given on when Brothers can resume football activity, who had an MRI on March 21, one day after the Tigers’ fifth spring practice before the break.

Brothers is listed at 6’1, 240 pounds and is a native of Guthrie, OK.

The Mizzou Black and Gold game is scheduled for Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m.
