Steve Elkington, a 10-time PGA Tour winner and PGA Champion from Austrailian, deleted a tweet about Missouri Tiger Michael Sam after getting some heat from the PGA Tour for his attempt at trying to be funny. Elkington tweeted his poor attempt at a joke yesterday morning, “ESPN reporting Michael Sam leading the handbag throw at the NFL combine…No one else expected to throw today.”

The PGA Tour later released the following statement: “Under our regulations, conduct unbecoming a professional includes public commentary that is clearly inappropriate or offensive. With respect to this matter, and consistent with our longstanding policy, we do not comment on player disciplinary matters.”

Elkington also tweeted that ESPN reporting Sam was gay was “embarrassing.” He later tried to clarify by stating that he was “for Sam, against ESPN.”

This isn’t the first time that Elkington has tweeted tasteless jokes or comments on Twitter and he has been reprimanded by the European Tour
