St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith wants Major League Baseball’s Opening Day to become a national holiday. In order for that to even become a possibility, Smith needs to get at least 100,000 signatures on a petition to the White House.

A petition, which launched Tuesday on WhiteHouse.gov, requires those signatures within 30 days in order to advance to an administration review and response. Smith is teaming up with Budweiser to help get the word out and he will be releasing an online video series to promote the significance of Opening Day.

Will this ever get past? Most likely not, but it’s a great advertising campaign. Want to get your name on the petition? Follow the link right here.
