Southeast Missouri is laying the foundation for a rebuild and it officially started Wednesday when the Redhawks received 22 commitments. The 2014 recruiting class marks Tom Matukewicz’sĀ first at Southeast and these individuals went all-in to help the Redhawks begin shaping their football program “brick-by-brick.” A total of 10 players from Missouri will join the Redhawks, including nine within a two-hour drive of Cape Girardeau.

Nick Michel, OL, 6-4, 290, Poplar Bluff, Mo./Poplar Bluff H.S.

Twin brother of Quentin Michel…Played right guard at Poplar Bluff High School…Finished with 51 tackles, including 11 for a loss on defense his senior year…Also had three sacks…Was part of an offensive line that averaged 4.5 yards per carry…Blocked for running back Bi Nguyen who ran for a record 1,785 yards this past season.

Played linebacker and fullback at Briarcrest High School…Four-year letterwinner and three-year starter…Finished with 113 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, five sacks, three forced fumbles and two interceptions as a senior…First-Team All-State and All-Region selection…Registered 106 tackles, including 12 for loss his junior year…Also had three sacks, three forced fumbles and two picks that season…Led his team with 89 tackles as a sophomore…Helped lead the Saints to the playoffs all four years…Was also on the baseball team.

First-Team All-Conference honoree at Kickapoo High School…Named Conference and Region Offensive Player of the Year…Earned All-City Most Valuable Player accolades and was named honorable mention All-State…Threw for 1,935 yards and 27 touchdowns his senior year…Also ran for nine touchdowns…Garnered All-Conference and All-District laurels as a junior…Was a member of the basketball and track & field teams, as well.

Brad Ivey, LB, 6-2, 215, Shawnee, Kan./Bishop Miege H.S.

Two-star recruit according to Rivals.com…Earned First-Team Class 5A All-State accolades…First-Team All-Metro by the Kansas City Star and Kpreps First-Team All-State pick.

Missouri Class 1 Media All-State Second-Team selection at Hayti High School…First-Team All-Region honoree…Media and Coaches All-Region First-Team pick as a junior.

Craig Mackey, CB, 6-0, 175, Tallahassee, Fla./Rickards H.S.

Two-star recruit according to Rivals.com…Had 46 tackles and five interceptions as a senior at Rickards High School…Recorded 27 solo stops, one fumble recovery and 14 passes deflected…Averaged 2.4 tackles per game.

Three-year starter at Houston High School…Played tight end and defensive end…Recorded 21 tackles, including four solo stops during his senior year at Houston High School…Forced two fumbles and recovered two others…Played in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game…Named Best of Preps Metro Memphis…Also played basketball.

Demontrail Clark, ATH, 5-10, 175, Charleston, Mo./Charleston H.S.

Four-year starter at Charleston High School…Played running back and defensive back…Gained 2,942 yards on 126 carries and caught 18 passes for 423 yards in his career…Recorded 165 career tackles, 13 interceptions and two sacks on defense during his prep career…Had 936 rushing yards and 221 receiving yards, while collecting 48 tackles and three interceptions as a senior…Rushed for 721 yards on 32 attempts and made four receptions for 106 yards as a junior…Team Captain in 2013…Won his team’s Most Improved Award in 2012…Also a member of the basketball and track teams…Ranked fourth in his class and earned several academic honors.
