Meet the Redhawks–2014 Recruiting Class

Southeast Missouri is laying the foundation for a rebuild and it officially started Wednesday when the Redhawks received 22 commitments. The 2014 recruiting class marks Tom Matukewicz’s first at Southeast and these individuals went all-in to help the Redhawks begin shaping their football program “brick-by-brick.” A total of 10 players from Missouri will join the Redhawks, including nine within a two-hour drive of Cape Girardeau.

Nick Michel, OL, 6-4, 290, Poplar Bluff, Mo./Poplar Bluff H.S.

Twin brother of Quentin Michel…Played right guard at Poplar Bluff High School…Finished with 51 tackles, including 11 for a loss on defense his senior year…Also had three sacks…Was part of an offensive line that averaged 4.5 yards per carry…Blocked for running back Bi Nguyen who ran for a record 1,785 yards this past season.

Quentin Michel, OL, 6-4, 280, Poplar Bluff, Mo./Poplar Bluff H.S.

Twin brother of Nick Michel…Played right tackle at Poplar Bluff High School…Had 36 tackles, seven tackles for loss and a forced fumble on defense…Was part of an offensive line that averaged 4.5 yards per carry…Blocked for running back Bi Nguyen who ran for a record 1,785 yards this past season.

Hunter Bledsoe, LB, 6-1, 220, Eads, Tenn./Briarcrest H.S.

Played linebacker and fullback at Briarcrest High School…Four-year letterwinner and three-year starter…Finished with 113 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, five sacks, three forced fumbles and two interceptions as a senior…First-Team All-State and All-Region selection…Registered 106 tackles, including 12 for loss his junior year…Also had three sacks, three forced fumbles and two picks that season…Led his team with 89 tackles as a sophomore…Helped lead the Saints to the playoffs all four years…Was also on the baseball team.

Anthony Cooper, QB, 6-1, 190, Springfield, Mo./Kickapoo H.S.

First-Team All-Conference honoree at Kickapoo High School…Named Conference and Region Offensive Player of the Year…Earned All-City Most Valuable Player accolades and was named honorable mention All-State…Threw for 1,935 yards and 27 touchdowns his senior year…Also ran for nine touchdowns…Garnered All-Conference and All-District laurels as a junior…Was a member of the basketball and track & field teams, as well.

Brad Ivey, LB, 6-2, 215, Shawnee, Kan./Bishop Miege H.S.

Two-star recruit according to Rivals.com…Earned First-Team Class 5A All-State accolades…First-Team All-Metro by the Kansas City Star and Kpreps First-Team All-State pick.

Demetrius Luster, WR, 6-0, 190, Hayti, Mo./Hayti H.S.

Missouri Class 1 Media All-State Second-Team selection at Hayti High School…First-Team All-Region honoree…Media and Coaches All-Region First-Team pick as a junior.

Craig Mackey, CB, 6-0, 175, Tallahassee, Fla./Rickards H.S.

Two-star recruit according to Rivals.com…Had 46 tackles and five interceptions as a senior at Rickards High School…Recorded 27 solo stops, one fumble recovery and 14 passes deflected…Averaged 2.4 tackles per game.

Gavin McCrary, TE, 6-4, 240, Germantown, Tenn./Houston H.S.

Three-year starter at Houston High School…Played tight end and defensive end…Recorded 21 tackles, including four solo stops during his senior year at Houston High School…Forced two fumbles and recovered two others…Played in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game…Named Best of Preps Metro Memphis…Also played basketball.

Demontrail Clark, ATH, 5-10, 175, Charleston, Mo./Charleston H.S.

Four-year starter at Charleston High School…Played running back and defensive back…Gained 2,942 yards on 126 carries and caught 18 passes for 423 yards in his career…Recorded 165 career tackles, 13 interceptions and two sacks on defense during his prep career…Had 936 rushing yards and 221 receiving yards, while collecting 48 tackles and three interceptions as a senior…Rushed for 721 yards on 32 attempts and made four receptions for 106 yards as a junior…Team Captain in 2013…Won his team’s Most Improved Award in 2012…Also a member of the basketball and track teams…Ranked fourth in his class and earned several academic honors.

Connor Alexander, TE, 6-2, 220, Olathe, Kan./Olathe East H.S.

Second-Team All-Sunflower League selection at Olathe East High School…Averaged 19.9 yards per reception and scored six touchdowns as a senior…As a defensive end, had 22 tackles, including 10 for loss as a senior…Helped lead Olathe East to a 7-4 record and trip to the Class 6A quarterfinals…Also competed in basketball and track.

Richie Eisenhart, WR, 5-10, 175, St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell H.S.

Gateway Athletics First-Team All-Conference selection as a senior at Francis Howell High School…Scored eight touchdowns…Garnered All-Conference honors three of his prep seasons.

Zach Stagner, LS, 6-0, 210, Cape Girardeau, Mo./Central H.S.
Local product out of Cape Central High School…Made 32 tackles, including five for loss…Played both defensive end and offensive guard and handled long snapping duties.

Colten Proffer, RB, 5-9, 180, Jackson, Mo./Jackson H.S.
Rushed for 1,132 yards on 135 carries at nearby Jackson High School…Caught 39 passes for 799 yards…Had 1,931 total yards as a senior…Team captain his junior and senior years…First-Team All-Conference selection and earned All-Region honors.

Jeff Teel, TE, 6-5, 220, Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett H.S.
First-Team Class AAA All-District selection at Bartlett High School…Member of National Honor Society…Also played basketball.Kendall Donnerson, DE, 6-3, 215, Maumelle, Ark./Maumelle H.S.
Two-star recruit according to Rivals.com…Recorded 120 tackles and recovered two fumbles as a senior at Maumelle High School…Had 25 career sacks…Four-year starter…Nominated to play in Arkansas High School All-Star Game…2013 Farm Bureau Nominee for Defensive Player of the Year…All-Conference performer in basketball.

Josh Kinzer, S, 6-0, 195, Owasso, Okla./Owasso H.S.
Capped his prep career with 90 tackles and three interceptions as a senior at Owasso High School.

Griffin Pickler, QB, 6-3, 200, Colleyville, Texas/Colleyville Heritage H.S.
District Offensive Player of the Year at Colleyville Heritage High School…Had 2,522 passing yards and threw for 29 touchdowns as a senior…Brother, Clay, is a kicker at Florida State, which recently won a national title…His older twin sisters were heptathletes at Washington State.

Keari Brown, WR, 6-7, 200, West Memphis, Ark./West Memphis Christian H.S.
Caught five touchdown passes and had 702 receiving yards as a senior at West Memphis Christian High School…Averaged 22.7 yards per catch and caught five touchdown passes…Registered 60 tackles, including seven for a loss on defense…Also played basketball.

Darrell Monroe, RB, 6-1, 215, Caruthersville, Mo./Caruthersville H.S.
Attended Caruthersville High School, where he was First-Team All-Region on offense and defense.
