Secretary of State Jason Kander says there are no documented instances of voter impersonation fraud in Missouri. But Kander is setting up a unit to investigate questions of voter integrity anyway..

Kander’s elections staff has investigated four elections complaints this year, none of which led to recommended legal action. The results of the investigations are posted on the Secretary of State’s election integrity website.

He says the unit will have a simple reporting procedure. Staff will investigate complaints considered credible and can refer them to appropriate law enforcement–a county prosecutor, for instance.

The change he refers to could be legislative passage of a voter photo-ID law. Kander’s fellow Democrats have maintained such a law is unnecessary.

He says the unit just gives his office one more tool to guard the fairness and accuracy of state elections.
