Senators Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill agree on one thing … the problems with Obamacare and nearly 5 million people losing their current insurance coverage is unacceptable. Where they disagree is whether the problems can be fixed.
McCaskill says they can, and she looks forward to being part of the solution. However, she says she understands why people are angry.
“Talk about incompetence,” she says, likening it to hosting a grand opening for a new business and then locking the front door.
President Obama has announced he’ll give Americans who received cancellation notices from their insurers a one-year reprieve before they have to get new policies under Obamacare. Blunt says it’s “too little, too late.”
Missouri’s insurance commissioner John Huff says his department is reviewing Obama’s announcement and the impact it will have on insurance companies and Missouri consumers.
Obama says he expected that for 98 percent of the American people, “either it genuinely wouldn’t change at all or they’d be pleasantly surprised with the options in the marketplace” and the grandfather clause would cover the rest, he said, and that turned out not to be the case. He says he can’t guarantee that the website technical difficulties would be completely resolved by the end of the month, but it will be a lot better.
