Carlos Beltran continues to prove why he is one of the best in postseason play. Beltran drove in all three runs, including the game winner in the 13th inning, but he also saved the game in the 10th with his arm as the Cardinals grab game one of the NLCS with a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Beltran singled into the right-field corner with one out against Kenley Jansen in the 13th inning to finish a game that took 4 hours, 47 minutes and ended after midnight at Busch Stadium.
After the Dodgers took a 2-0 lead on starter Joe Kelly in the third, Beltran hit a tying, two-run double in the bottom half of the inning with two outs. L.A. starter Zack Greinke struck out the first two batters, then gave up a single to Kelly. He walked Matt Carpenter before Beltran’s double scored both runs to tie the game 2-2.
In the top of the tenth, Dodgers second baseman Mark Ellis tripled with one out. Michael Young hit a shallow fly ball to right center. Beltran called off center fielder Jon Jay and threw Ellis out by at least ten feet to keep the score tied.
