If this were a typical Royals season, sitting 10+ games below .500 and near the bottom of the standings, you may appreciate the story of Minnesota Twins left handed starter Andrew Albers. However, the Royals are chasing a Wild Card spot and in no need of feel good stories from the opposition. Albers, in his major league debut, threw 8.1 scoreless innings shutting out the Royals 7-0.

Albers held the Royals to four hits and a walk and their only real threat came in the ninth, when Albers ran out of gas giving up a single and the lone walk. The Royals loaded the bases, but Alex Gordon grounded into a game ending double play against Casey Fien.

James Shields took the loss, allowing all seven runs in six innings, including three home runs that accounted for four of the runs.

Detroit won again over Cleveland, dropping the Royals to 8.5 games behind first place.
