Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright became the first NL pitcher to reach 13 wins. With the help three double plays, Wainwright helped pitch the Cardinals to a 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres. Wainwright (13-5), gave two runs with seven strikeouts and two walks. The Padres got the leadoff man on base seven times but Wainwright managed to control the game.

The Cardinals did all of their scoring in the third.  Matt Carpenter opened the inning with a double, as the first four Cardinals reached base in the inning.  The rally was capped by David Freese’s two-run double that got past diving center fielder Alexi Amarista. The ball went to the wall and Freese was eventually gunned down at third on the hit.

Wainwright pitched eight innings and Edward Mujica finished off the ninth for his 28th save.

Allen Craig who made a nice leaping catch at the wall to end the game and preserve the win for Wainwright has been red hot at the plate. Craig has 12 hits and six RBIs during a seven-game hitting streak for the Cardinals
