Bruce Chen, making his first start of the year for the Royals, didn’t give up a hit until the fifth inning and allowed just one hit and a walk over six innings. Chen got a no-decision as Cleveland scored three times in the seventh to hand the Royals a 3-0 loss.

Tim Collins replaced Chen who left after throwing 97 pitches. Collins gave up two singles and was lifted for Aaron Crow. With runners on first and second, Carlos Santana singled home a run and after a bunt single loaded the bases, Michael Bourn doubled home two more. Collins was charged with two runs and the loss, Crow was charged with the third.

The Royals were held to just five hits on the night as Corey Kluber matched Chen with zeroes, allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out eight. The Royals managed to load the bases with two outs in the ninth, but Jarrod Dyson struck out looking for the final out as Cody Allen picked up the save.
