Michael Wacha, another Cardinals rookie, makes his much anticipated major league debut tonight as the Cardinals go for the sweep over the Royals. Wacha is the Cardinals top pitching prospect and eighth rookie pitcher to appear in a game this season.

One more interesting tidbit. When Albert Pujols signed with the Angels…they had to give the Cardinals compensation picks in the draft last season. The Cards picked Wacha with what should have been the Angels 19th pick.

Wacha went 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA in nine starts at Triple-A Memphis. To give you an idea of the difference in organizations between the Cardinals and Royals…Wacha was selected 19th and is making a major league start. The Royals selected Kyle Zimmer, fifth overall, and he’s stuck in Class-A ball with an 0-4 recored and 5.28 ERA.
