Following an emotional pregame ceremony in which the victims and first responders of the Boston Marathon bombings were honored, the Red Sox got a clutch three-run homer from Daniel Nava off reliever Kelvin Herrera to win their seventh straight in a 4-3 final.

Pinch-hitter Jonny Gomes opened the eighth inning with a double off Tim Collins, and after a walk, David Ortiz rapped hit into a double play. However, Herrera entered the game and walked Mike Napoli before giving up the homer to Nava for a 4-2 deficit.

In the ninth Lorenzo Cain hit a home run to left field — his fourth hit of the game, but the Royals came up short. They grabbed a 2-1 lead as Salvador Perez tripled home Cain in the seventh. Jeff Francouer gave the Royals a 1-0 lead with an RBI single.
