24 hours after the Cardinals dropped a nine spot on the San Francisco Giants, the Cincinnati Reds returned the favor breaking a 4-4 tie with nine runs in the top of the ninth to spoil the Cardinals home opener by handing them a 13-4 loss.

Brandon Phillips broke the tie with a bloop double that landed on the right field line and Shin-Soo Choo made up for two botched fly balls that led to three unearned runs, with a three-run double.

Mitchell Boggs gave up six runs while getting only one out and the Cardinals needed four more pitchers to get out of the ninth inning. Boggs ERA ballooned to 14.54.

Cardinals lefty Jamie Garcia matched his career best with 10 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings and left with a 4-3 lead. Yadier Molina hit both of the fly balls dropped by Choo in the first and sixth, and added an RBI single.

Jefferson City, MO. native Sam LeCure pitched the ninth for Cincinnati to pick up the win.
