After pitching 7.2 shutout innings in game five of the NLCS, Giants starter Barry Zito continued to put up zeroes on the scoreboard in their home opener,a 1-0 win over the Cardinals. Zito went seven innings allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out four.

Those three singles were the only hits for the Cardinals. Allen Craig had two of them, but was caught looking at strike three in the top of the ninth as Sergio Romo picked up his third save.

Jake Westbrook was fortunate he allowed just one run, which was unearned. He gave up six hits and walked six in his 6.2 innings. The Giants stranded 11 runners. Westbrook walked Angel Pagan with the bases loaded in the fourth.
