The Royals picked up their first win of the season, 3-1 over the White Sox this afternoon. Jeremy Guthrie pitched six innings, and finished with nine strikeouts. Alex Gordon went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Chris Getz and Jarrod Dyson also drove in runs in a three run fifth inning.

Eric Hosmer drew a one-out walk and Jeff Francoeur singled to right. Hosmer scored from third as Jarrod Dyson’s hopper glanced off first baseman Paul Konerko’s glove to second baseman Gordon Beckham, who got the out at first.  Chris Getz singled to center, scoring Francoeur, and took second after center fielder Alejandro De Aza bobbled the ball. Alex Gordon doubled down the right-field line for the third run.

The bullpen shut down the Sox, but not before they threatened Aaron Crow with one-out singles by Tyler Flowers and Gordon Beckham, but Crow worked out of the jam. Kelvin Herrera retired the White Sox in order in the eighth.

In the ninth, closer Greg Holland got two outs, before Flowers walked and Beckham reached with his fourth single. But Holland got Alejandro De Aza to ground out clinch the victory.
