In the first game of the day, Hainley Statia hit a two-run homer and the Milwaukee Brewers smacked the Kansas City Royals, 9-1, in spring training action on Wednesday.

Alex Gonzalez clubbed a solo homer with two RBI and Aramis Ramirez contributed a two-run single for Milwaukee, which received 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball out of starter Yovani Gallardo. He struck out two and gave up just two hits.

Kansas City starter Luis Mendoza took the loss, tagged for six runs — four earned — on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings. Xavier Nady drove in the Royals’ only run with a solo homer in the fourth inning.

In the nightcap, David DeJesus clubbed an RBI triple and added a game-tying sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning, as the Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Royals played to a 9-9 tie on Wednesday in spring training action.

Dioner Navarro finished with two hits and two RBI for the Cubs, who saw starter Scott Feldman allow seven runs on 12 hits over 4 1/3 frames.

Chris Getz racked up six hits, two RBI and two runs scored, while Mike Moustakas had two hits, including a solo homer, with three RBI for the Royals.

Lorenzo Cain, Salvador Perez and Alex Gordon each added a solo shot for Kansas City. Royals starter James Shields gave up two runs and three hits over five innings.
