St. Louis Blues Chris Stewart (25) celebrates his overtime, game winning goal with Vladimir Sobotka . UPI/Bill Greenblatt

Chris Stewart scored 45 seconds into overtime to give the Blues a 2-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks. Stewart now has five goals in the past three games, 14 points [seven goals, seven assists] in the past seven and 24 points [10 goals, 14 assists] in the past 18 games.

Kris Russell scored his first goal of the season, and Jake Allen continued to roll, improving to 8-1-0 on the season after making 27 stops as the Blues won their fifth in six games. They also improved to 16-10-2 on the season, despite playing without injured stars Andy McDonald (knee), T.J. Oshie (upper-body) and top defenseman Alex Pietrangelo, who was a late scratch with the flu.

Russell’s first goal since April 7, 2012, the final day of the regular season, tied the game 1-1 and came on the power-play.  It was just their fourth in the last 40 tries with the man advantage.  Vladimir Tarasenko, back in the lineup after missing 10 games with a concussion, reversed the play with a pass to Russell. He skated to the middle of the point and ripped a shot over Hiller’s right shoulder at the 12:42 mark of the second period.

Stewart’s goal was set up by Vladimir Sobotka. He picked off a Teemu Selanne pass near his own blue line for a 2-on-1 with teammate Roman Polak. Stewart, who was trailing, got the puck from Sobotka, who waited for Selanne and Cam Fowler who slid in front of him before hitting Stewart in the slot.  Stewart waited for Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller, who slide over and Stewart went to his backhand and flipped in the winner.
