MIAA basketball recap

Truman at Northeastern State

WBB – NSU 46, #19 TSU 44

Trailing by three with 25 seconds to play Tosha Tyler completed at four-point play to help Northeastern State upset #19 Truman. Northeastern State trailed at the half, but came from behind to pick a victory at home and move to 11-3 in the MIAA.

For the RiverHawks Sarah Green led the way with 11 points and seven rebounds. Taylor Lewis and Carrington Fox each had eight points while Fox pulled down six rebounds. For the Bulldogs Allie Norton had a game high 20 points while Becka McHenry had 10 points and nine boards. Amy Briggs scored eight points while Jennifer Conway added eight rebounds.

MBB – NSU 72, TSU 56

Northeastern State shot .540 from the field as they defeated Truman State at home. The RiveHawks shot .500 hitting ten shot from behind the arch as they moved to 9-5 on the season.

For the RiverHawks Bryton Hobbs scored 28 points, pulled down six rebounds and dished out six assists. Jermaine Bransford had a double-double with 14 points and pulled down ten rebounds. For the Bulldogs Mike Carlson had 13 points and pulled down four rebounds. Seth Jackson scored 13 points and had six boards while Marek Bush pulled down a team best eight rebounds.

Lindenwood at Emporia State

WBB – ESU 85, LWU 54

Emporia State shot .480 on the night as they picked up a victory at home over Lindenwood. ESU led by 22 points at the half as they pushed their winning streak to seven games and moved to 9-3 in the league.

For the Lady Hornets were led by Rachel Hanf who scored 24 points and pulled down six rebounds adding four assists. Desiree Wylie scored 16 points with nine boards while Merissa Quick had a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards. For the Lions Marissa Lehnig scored 14 points and added three steals. Julie Hlinak scored 12 points and Meagan Hittle pulled down seven boards.

MBB – ESU 61, LWU 52

Emporia State held Lindenwood to just .320 shooting on the day as they picked up the victory at home. ESU outrebounded LWU 39-28 on the afternoon as they moved to 5-7 in league play.

For the Hornets Kaleb Wright led the way with 18 points while Chris Sights finished with 11 points. Paul Bunch had a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds while Gavin Brown added seven boards. For the Lions Alex Bazzell led the way with 19 points, three rebounds and four assists. Richie Thompson, Cody Sorenson and Tyler Ressel each finished with nine points on the afternoon.

Southwest Baptist at Pittsburg State

WBB – PSU 74, SBU 61

Pittsburg State shot .480 on the afternoon as they picked up a victory at home over Southwest Baptist. PSU held a 14 point halftime advantage as they moved to 8-5 in the league this season.

For the Gorillas Lizzy Jeronimus led the way with 20 points, six rebounds and five assists. Alexa Borderwick had 14 points while Kylie Gafford and Brigit Hesser finished with ten points each. For the Bearcats Jacqui Zelenka had a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds on the afternoon. Brook Duncan had 18 points and Brittney Dukes added 10 points in the game.

MBB – SBU 82, PSU 75

Southwest Baptist held Pittsburg State to just one three-pointer as they defeated they on the road. SBU erased a nine-point halftime deficit to move to 6-7 in the MIAA this season.

For the Bearcats Damion Hooks had 22 points and pulled down six rebounds while Preston Guiot added 20 points. Rasha-Brown Peterson had 15 points and Afamefun Obukwelu had 11 points on the afternoon. For the Gorillas A.J. Adams had 19 points and pulled down four rebounds. Marky Nolen had 15 points, Kaleb Porter 13 points and Rico Pierrevilus pulled down eight rebounds.

Lincoln at Central Oklahoma

WBB – UCO 88, LU 79

Central Oklahoma shot .480 to overcome a two-point halftime deficit and win against Lincoln. Both teams shot better than .400 from behind the arch as UCO moved to 2-11 in the league.

For the Bronchos Britney Morgan scored a career high 23 points and added five assists. Alyssa Fuxa had 15 points pulling down six rebounds while McKenzie Solberg scored 12 and Savannah Hamilton 11 points and seven boards. For the Blue Tigers Freddie Sims led the way with 22 points while Nesha Wright had eight boards. Arianna Walker had 16 points while Dahilia Booker scored 14 points on the afternoon.

MBB – UCO 89, UCO 80

In a back and fourth game that saw 22 three-pointers Central Oklahoma held serve on their home floor against Lincoln. The Broncho’s shot .520 from the field as they moved to 8-5 on the year in the MIAA.

For the Bronchos Josh Gibbs had a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Spencer Smith also added a double-double with 20 points and a game high 13 rebounds. For the Blue Tigers Cedric Ridle led the way with 27 points and six assists. Charles Cole had 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds while Montez Fifer hit four three-pointers for 14 points.

Northwest Missouri at Washburn

WBB – #9 WU 64, NWMSU 53

#9 Washburn used 24 Northwest Missouri turnovers to escape with a victory on their home floor. NWMSU closed the gap in the second half, and shot .500 for the game, but WU held on to move to 11-1 in the MIAA.

For the Lady Blues Laura Kinderknecht led the way with 14 points and Tiara George had 12 points. On the glass Brittney Lynch pulled down a team high seven rebounds. For the Bearcats Maggie Marnin led the way with 17 points and pulled down three rebounds. Annie Mathews had 12 points, dished out five assists and pulled down four rebounds.

MBB – #17 WU 80, NWMSU 67

Washburn shot .570 from the field as they picked up a victory over Northwest Missouri on their home floor. The Ichabods held NWMSU to .360 shooting as they moved to 8-4 in the league.

For the Ichabods Martin Mitchell led the way with 20 points and Will McNeill scored 16 points. Christian Ulsaker finished with 11 points and Kyle Wiggins scored 10 points while Jared Henry pulled down six rebounds. For the Bearcats Kyler Erickson had 17 points while Grant Cozad added 13 points. DeAngelo Hailey had 12 points and Alex Sullivan led the team with eight rebounds.

Central Missouri at Missouri Southern

WBB – #10 UCM 74, MSSU 63

#10 Central Missouri got 16 points off of turnover as they earned a victory on the road at Missouri Southern. The Jennies overcame 41 MSSU bench points to move to 11-2 in the league this season.

For the Jennies BreAnna Lewis scored a game high 22 points. Keuna Flax joined her in double figures with 20 points on the evening. For the Lions Erin Rice led the way with 14 points. Dominique Mosley had 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the ballgame.

MBB – MSSU 93, UCM 81

Both teams shot over .500 but Missouri Southern prevailed at home over Central Missouri. MSSU shot .500 from the free-throw line as they moved to 6-7 in league play this season.

For the Lions RJ Leverette scored 23 points and Marquis Addison added 20 points and eight rebounds. Jordan Talber had 11 points and Cameron Cornellius scored 10 as four Lions finished in double figures. For the Mules Widgett Washington led the way with 19 points and Alex Dean added 17 points and six boards. Dominique Long had 12 points, Charles Hammork 11 points and Matt Webb had 10 points.
