U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill has introduced legislation that would allow grieving parents to take time off work.

She says as the nation marks the 20th anniversary of the Family and Medical Leave Act, the bill would expand that act by providing families some compassion and commonsense flexibility.

Current law allows parents to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave in order to care for a child battling a serious health problem, but that benefit does not extend to parents who have suddenly and tragically lost a child.
