CSNBayArea.com is reporting that 33-year-old Justin Smith of the San Francisco 49ers will undergo surgery this week and take three months of rehab. The Jefferson City native suffered a partially torn triceps against New England on Dec. 16.
Smith missed the rest of the regular season, but wore a brace on his left arm for the playoffs. With Smith out of the lineup or playing while hurt, it affected the numbers of the other Mizzou Tiger on that defense. Aldon Smith had 19.5 sacks in the first 13 games, but after that injury was shut out from that point on.
Smith, who will make $8 million this next season, should be ready for the start of training camp in July.
