According to multiple sources, the St. Louis Rams have hired Rob Ryan as the team’s new defensive coordinator after deciding not to bring back or reconsider Excelsior Springs, Mo. native Gregg Williams. Williams was suspended for his role in the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal. He has yet to be reinstated by the NFL.

Ryan was fired as defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys on Jan. 8.  The Cowboys’ defense was 19th overall, 17th against the run and 21st against the pass under Ryan.

Rams head coach Jeff Fisher played under Rob’s father, Buddy, in Chicago in their famous 46 defense and was a defensive coordinator under him in Philadelphia.
