Goals by Andy McDonald and T.J. Oshie for the Blues in the third period made this one a game late in Chicago, but goaltender Corey Crawford came up with big saves down the stretch. The Blues attempt for a second, third period comeback in as many nights fell short in a 3-2 loss to the Blackhawks, Tuesday night at United Center.
Oshie’s power play goal, came with 5:17 left in the third, and cut the lead to one after Chicago opened up a three goal lead, earlier. McDonald broke the shutout bid at the 4:40 mark of the third, just 2:31 after Victor Stalberg beat Blues goalie Brian Elliott to the glove side to make the deficit three goals.
Elliott made big saves early on keeping the game close in the opening five minutes of the game, as Chicago got a charge from their fans in their home opener. However, Elliot had no chance when the Hawks came in on a 3-on-0 and Patrick Kane beat Elliot to give Chicago a 1-0 lead, 7:20 into the game.
In the second period, Brent Seabrook tipped a shot from Duncan Keith on the power play, putting the Hawks up 2-0 at 8:21.
Hawks goalie Crawford came up big in the second as it appeared that the Blues outworked and had better scoring chances than Chicago.  He  took a shutout bid into the third period before the Blues finally scored. Crawford made 32 saves on the night for the win. Elliot stopped 24 shots.
