The Chiefs named Dave Toub as special teams coordinator.  Toub joins the Chiefs after spending nine seasons in the same role for the Chicago Bears. Chicago had an NFL-high in kick return yards (punt and kickoff) with 17,031 and kick return TDs (22). Toub was helped by Devin Hester who became the NFL’s all-time leader in kick return touchdowns (17) and compiled the NFL’s fifth-best all-time punt return average mark (12.1 avg.).

In addition, Head Coach Andy Reid announced he’s retaining linebackers coach Gary Gibbs and defensive backs coach Emmitt Thomas. Here is a look at the rest of the Chiefs core coaching staff.

Offensive coordinator Doug Pederson:

The 12-year NFL veteran, who played for five different teams during his career, served then Eagles head coach Andy Reid as the team’s QB in 1999, later helping rookie QB Donovan McNabb transition into the starting role.

The former Eagles QB, Pederson originally signed as a rookie free agent with the Miami Dolphins in 1991 and spent time with the them (1993-94), Green Bay (1995-98, 2001-04), Philadelphia (1999) and Cleveland (2000). His best season came under Reid’s coaching in Philadelphia, when Pederson threw for 1,276 yards and seven TDs in nine starts. Pederson was named Eagles quarterbacks coach in 2011, after spending the previous two seasons as the club’s offensive quality control coach.

Quarterbacks coach Matt Nagy:

Nagy enters his third season in the NFL by following Reid from Philadelphia to Kansas City. Nagy spent the previous two seasons as the Philadelphia Eagles offensive quality control coach, which followed his time as one of the team’s coaching assistants during the 2010 season.

Running backs coach Eric Bieniemy:

Bieniemy joins the Chiefs after spending two seasons at the University of Colorado, where he served as the offensive coordinator/running backs coach. Prior to returning to his alma mater in 2011, he spent five seasons (2006-10) in Minnesota, coaching the Vikings running backs.

Wide receivers coach David Culley:

Culley has been with Reid since 1999. He was promoted to senior offensive assistant/wide receivers in 2011.

Tight ends coach Tom Melvin:

Melvin joins the Chiefs after spending the past 14 seasons with Andy Reid in Philadelphia, his 11th as tight ends coach. His first three seasons in Philly were spent as the team’s offensive assistant/quality control coach.

Defensive coordinator Bob Sutton:

Sutton joins the Chiefs after spending the past 13 years with the New York Jets as an assistant coach, the longest tenure for an assistant coach in franchise history. Most recently, he served the Jets as an assistant head coach/linebackers coach in 2012. From 2009-11 he was the club’s senior defensive assistant/linebackers coach. Sutton was the club’s defensive coordinator from 2006-08 and originally joined the Jets as the linebackers coach (2000-05).

Defensive line coach Tommy Brasher:

Joins the Chiefs after working on coach Reid’s staff in 2012, his ninth season and third assignment with the Eagles. In 2004, Brasher coached the Eagles defensive linemen to 32 sacks. The team had 47 sacks (second in the NFL).
