New Year’s Eve snow storm sweeps Missouri

The National Weather Service in St. Louis says the snow is expected to continue throughout today and into tonight, leaving anywhere from 2- to 4 inches of accumulation.

WEATHERSenior forecaster Scott Truett tells Missourinet that as temperatures drop tonight and into the morning, significant icing could occur. He says those traveling in the morning will want to watch road conditions closely and give road crews a chance to get them cleared.

Truett says snow pockets have covered much of the state  and “it looks like another round of heavier snow is expected to re-devleop over the area later tonight.”

“We’re not sure this snow will be totally over tomorrow morning, but if it is still here it should be down to just flurries,” Truett says.

And he warns that a snow and sleet mix in southern Missouri might mean not as much accumulation, but will still prove to be hazardous.

St. Louis native named SEC player of the week

BJ Young, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound sophomore guard from St. Louis, Mo., was named SEC Player of the Week after recording game-highs with 26 points and 13 rebounds against Northwestern State. Young concluded the evening with his second career double-double and his first of this season. He was just three assists away from knocking down the first triple-double of his career as he finished with seven assists. On the season, Young is leading the Arkansas Razorbacks with 17.5 points and 4.4 assists while adding 4.7 rebounds per game. The Northwestern State game marked the fifth time this season that he has reached the 20-point mark and more than doubled his previous season-high (5) for rebounds.

Chiefs fire Romeo Crennel

The Kansas City Chiefs announced that Romeo Crennel has been fired as head coach after one full year as head coach. The 65 year old Crennel compiled a 2-14 regular season record. No decision has been made at this time on Scott Pioli, but as your read Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt’s statement below, it certainly doesn’t sound like a ringing endorsement for the GM.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Romeo, both personally and professionally,” said. “He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.

However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come. No final determination has been made at this point on the future of General Manager Scott Pioli.

Finally, I want to personally apologize to our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best and most passionate fans in the National Football League and they deserve better than what we gave them this season. I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them with a dramatically better team – both next season and in the seasons to come – and our entire organization appreciates their support.”

First reports say Crennel out, Pioli to stay put…nothing official from Chiefs management

ESPN is reporting that the Kansas City Chiefs will fire coach Romeo Crennel today, but not general manager Scott Pioli, that according to their league sources. The Chiefs have not made an announcement at this time.
