A new effort has been launched to build a museum honoring Missouri firefighters. The effort began in 1998 with a proposal for a memorial statue and a museum at Kingdom City, in central Missouri. The first statue of a kneeling firefighter, intended for Kingdom City, was in New York when the terrorist attacks happened in 2001. Missouri firefighters donated it to New York for the memorial to 343 firefighters killed that day. A second statue was later cast as is in Kingdom City.
But the Museum has never been built. Retired Fulton minister Ron Baker is leading the fund-raising effort, hoping to raise five million dollars for the museum.
The 24-thousand square foot building would have historical exhibits with hands-on experiences for children and adults and also would be an archive of Missouri firefighting.
Baker says Missouri’s firefighter deserve a fitting tribute to those who have lost their lives as well as a place to honor those who continue to serve.
