Governor Nixon takes a hard position against arming teachers in Missouri classrooms.

He has sent letters to the state’s 520 school superintendents saying the state already has strong laws protecting  students and educators.  He says he has “serious concerns” about a bill introduced by Lamar Representative Mike Kelley that would let teachers carry concealed weapons without the permission of  school boards or school administrations.

Nixon says the proposal would put children at risk and limit the ability of school districts to keep schools afe.

He says school safety is a serious issue that demands “careful analysis and thoughtful solutions.”
