While Governor Nixon returns from his visit to troops in Afghanistan, First Lady Georganne Nixon gets into the holiday spirit at the Capitol.

First Lady Georganne Nixon got into the Christmas spirit by hosting the annual holiday tree decorating event with elementary school students from Mokane.

Mrs. Nixon says it’s a great tradition. The students each made their own ornaments to decorate the tree with, which Mrs. Nixon says is a unique attribute during the holiday season.

“It’s a great time to be an artist at Christmas because another thing that’s so great is you can make presents for your family that way,” she says.

Mrs. Nixon praised the students for being wonderful artists and expressed how delighted she was to show off their works of art on the Christmas tree.

Mrs. Nixon says the First Family is making their holiday preparations by putting up a live tree at the Governor’s Mansion. “I just dug out (the ornaments) from my boys when they were in Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 2nd Grade… and I think those are my favorite ornaments of all,” she says.
