St. Louis County woman faces manslaughter for beating elderly grandmother to death

A St. Louis County woman faces charges for beating her 92-year-old grandmother, who has since died from her injuries.

Rachel Armstrong says she believed the elderly woman was possessed by demons and she was trying to “beat it out of her” before putting her to bed. Police say Armstrong threw her grandmother to the ground and stomped on her, breaking both of her arms and eight ribs.

She had been charged with first-degree elderly abuse, but now faces manslaughter.

The case is set to go before a grand jury; St. Louis County police are expected to ask for the more serious charge.
