Cardinals Gold Glove catcher Yadier Molina, and All-Star outfielder Carlos Beltran have signed up to play for Puerto Rico in the 2013 World Baseball Classic and left handed pitcher Jaime Garcia is set to pitch for Mexico.

There is some concern given Garcia’s shoulder issues this past season if the club will be interested in having Garcia pitch in the WBC.  Garcia opted for rest and rehab over surgery and will begin throwing in January. At baseball meetings in Nashville, TN., general manager John Mozeliak was asked about the prospects of Garcia pitching in the WBC.

“I’m encouraged that physically he feels that he can compete,” Mozeliak said. “In terms of making that final decision, it’s something that we’ll speak with him and his agent about. But right now, I think that it’s very positive news.”
