Despite winning the Gold Glove for National League catchers, hitting .315 and reaching career highs in home runs and RBI, Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina finished fourth in MVP voting by the Baseball Writers of America. San Francisco catcher Buster Posey won with Milwaukee’s Ryan Braun second and Andrew McCutcheon of Pittsburgh third.

Molina received two first place votes and Braun three, while Posey took the rest of the remaining 27. Posey made his cause for MVP by hitting .385 with 23 doubles, 14 homers and 60 RBIs in 71 games after the All-Star break.

Readers in Missourinet’s online poll picked Posey as the winner slightly ahead of Molina by just 4% of the vote.
