Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel generated 345 total yards to lead the Aggies to a 29-24 win over top-ranked Alabama. He completed 24-of-31 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 92 rushing yards on 18 carries. With the game, Manziel became the second freshman in NCAA FBS history to rush for 1,000 yards and pass for 2,000 yards in a single-season. Mizzou’s Brad Smith was the first in 2002.

Mizzou kicker Andrew Baggett was named the SEC special teams players of the week. The 6’2 freshman from Lee’s Summit, MO., hit a 35 yard field goal in the fourth overtime to give Missouri a 51-48 win over Tennessee. It was Baggett’s first ever attempt at a game-winning field goal in his career. He also hit 6-of-6 PAT tries against the Vols.

Derek Dooley’s days (if not hours) as head coach for Tennessee may be numbered, as multiple sources, including VolQuest.com, (a guest on our recent Pressbox Podcast), have reported that preparations for his firing have been made and that an announcement is pending. Under Dooley, the Vols have a 4-18 record in the SEC and have yet to beat a ranked opponent.

For the first-time ever, there are six SEC teams ranked in the top nine of the BCS standings…No. 4 Alabama, No. 5 Georgia, No. 6 Florida, No. 7 LSU, No. 8 Texas A&M and No. 9 South Carolina.  But they are ranked from 4th to 9th.  After Alabama’s loss to A&M, the Tide fell from the No. 1 spot to fourth.  Notre Dame is 3rd, Oregon 2nd and Kansas State 1st, all three are a perfect 10-0.  With two regular games remaining in the season, it looks like an SEC team will not play in the BCS National Championship for the first time since 2005.
