An Amber Alert has been issued for a 5-year-old Poplar Bluff girl authorities believe has been abducted by a registered sex offender.

Abigail Berthoff’s mother says she was not in her bedroom this morning when the mother went to wake her. Police think she could be with 45-year-old Jeffery Shelton. Authorities are looking for his silver 2001 Nissan Pathfinder.
Berthoff is described as having a medium complexion with black hair and brown eyes. Shelton is described as 6 feet tall, 175 pounds with brown hair and green eyes.
Shelton was convicted in Texas in 1990 of kidnapping, attempted kidnapping, rape and two counts of sodomy.
