A man who last year wanted his son and himself dead now has what he wanted.
Jailers in south-central Missouri’s Howell County found the body of 40-year-old Eric Chappelle of West Plains in his jail cell around 7 yesterday morning. Chappelle had been in Jail since being arrested in April, 2011 for first-degree murder and other charges in the drowning of his four-year-old son.
Chappelle told police last year he couldn’t live with allegations he had molested two female relatives, so he drowned his son before attempting to kill himself. He had stab wounds in the chest and stomach when arrested.
The Highway Patrol is investigating his death. Foul play is not suspected.
