Federal prosecutors say the man who planned to blow up the Federal Reserve Bank of New York came to the U.S. in January on the pretext of attending college in Missouri.

21-year-old Quazi Ahsan Nafis has been detained after trying to detonate what undercover agents led him to believe was a van full of explosives in front of Federal Reserve. He faces charges of “attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to provide material support to al Qaeda.”

From January to May, he was a student majoring in cybersecurity at Southeast Missouri State University.
