Authorities say the shooting deaths of two people early this morning was a murder-suicide involving a former police officer.

The Highway Patrol says 32-year-old Landon Ison shot and killed his wife, 33-year-old Dana Ison, shortly before 1 a.m. at a home a mile southwest of Lamar. He also shot and wounded her mother, 67-year-old Cheryl Thompson, who is in critical condition in a Springfield hospital.

He then drove to a location four miles north of Lamar and fatally shot himself.

The couple’s two sons were in the home at the time of the shooting but were not hurt.

Landon Ison resigned from the Lamar Police Department August 7 and was a former dispatcher with the Barton County Sheriff’s Department. He and his wife had separated October 1.
