A former Miller resident is still in custody after being arrested Saturday, one day after being released from prison.

31-year-old James Strawn was pulled over on Saturday and police found a pistol hidden in his vehicle’s engine compartment. Strawn had been released on Friday on parole after serving 6 years of a 10-year sentence for drug distribution in Christian County.

Strawn told police he knew he wasn’t supposed to have a firearm as a convicted felon, but claimed he took the pistol from a child and just hadn’t gotten rid of it yet.

He hasn’t told authorities who or where the child he took the firearm was. Strawn has been convicted of three felonies.
