Twenty percent more of Missouri taxpayers’ contributions to the state will go to cover state employee pensions in the next year — about $330 million.

The Missouri State Employees Retirement System approved the increase Thursday.

State Treasurer Clint Zweifel cast the lone dissenting vote on the measure, saying the state needs to look at whether it can afford the increase in state pensions and if the state is retaining a quality work-force.

State Budget Director Linda Luebbering says state officials have been planning for the added expense.
