Hundreds of thousands of people come by Mike Babick’s home near Kansas City to see his house each year.

The Prairie Village resident has transformed his home into a Christmas wonderland since the 1960s. But Babick says the long-held Holiday tradition might end after the Prairie Village City Council passed an ordinance that he says might make it unaffordable for him to put on the display.

The city council passed regulations that would require permits and paid security for any “special event” lasting five days or more that generates crowds.

The American Civil Liberties Union is looking into whether the ordinance violates Babick’s right to freedom of speech.
