Missouri’s five most recent U-S Senators do not want Todd Akin to join their club.  Senators Blunt, Ashcroft, Bond, Danforth, and Talent jointly are calling for Akin to take his name off the ballot.  They’re saying the November election is too important for him to be on the ballot after comments last weekend that they say were “totally unacceptable.

Blunt’s office released  the following statement at mid-day:

“U.S. Senator Roy Blunt called U.S. Representative Todd Akin’s recent statements ‘totally unacceptable’ and issued the following joint statement together with former Missouri U.S. Senators John Ashcroft, Kit Bond, John Danforth, and Jim Talent calling for Akin to step aside:   ‘We do not believe it serves the national interest for Congressman Todd Akin to stay in this race. The issues at stake are too big, and this election is simply too important. The right decision is to step aside.’”

If Akin not withdraw by 5 p.m., he cannot be taken off the ballot without a court proceeding.
