Senate candidate Todd Akin says he’s not a quitter and will not drop out of the Senate race after his remarks about rape and abortion in a weekend interview.
Akin was interviewed by reporter Charles Jaco on KTVI, a St. Louis station, yesterday.

GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney calls Akin’s remarks ‘insulting…inexcusable and, frankly wrong…entirely without merit.” And President Obama, in condemning Akins’ statement, broadens its context to say it represents the differences between Democrats and Republicans.

Akin, on today’s Mike Huckabee radio program, says his remark was a “mistake.” He says he used the wrong word. He says he meant to say “forcible rape.”

But shortly after Akin’s apology on Huckabee’s program, the chairman of the Republican Senatorial Committee, John Cornyn, says Akin should carefully consider what is best for him, his family, and the Republican party.” The RSCC says it will not invest money in Akin’s campaign. Some outside groups are saying the same thing.
If Akin remains on the ballot after 5 p.m. tomorrow, he cannot be removed except by court order.
