A calm Jeff Fisher said his Rams team would play better in their second preseason game and he was right. The offense clicked early and all phases of the game looked better as the Rams beat the Chiefs 31-17 to claim the Governor’s Cup. Both teams are 1-1 in the preseason.

Sam Bradford led the Rams on scoring drives on his only two possessions of the game, as Lance Kendricks and Danny Amendola scored on catches of 23 and 8 yards and Steven Jackson had 49 yards on seven carries in a 151-yard first quarter. The Rams (1-1) totaled 215 yards the week before in a 38-3 loss at Indianapolis. Bradford was 6 for 9 for 102 yards for St. Louis.

Matt Cassel played the first half for the Chiefs (1-1) and was 13 for 18 for 142 yards and led an 80-yard drive capped by Peyton Hillis’ 1-yard run early in the second quarter on his third series. Jamaal Charles had 17 yards on three carries, and Kevin Boss had four receptions for 62 yards, but the Chiefs turned the ball over four times.

Rams rookie kicker Greg Zuerlein kicked a 52 yard field goal in the first half. Zuerlein played at Missouri Western last season. The Rams got a one yard touchdown run from rookie Isiah Pead and the Chiefs added a late touchdown on a 38 yard pass from Brady Quinn to Jeremy Horne.

The Rams stopped a five game losing streak in this series and lead 9-5 since moving to St. Louis in 1995. Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon attended the game.
