A Missouri inmate has admitted to running a scam from his prison cell that caused the IRS to issue nearly $55,000 in refunds.

46-year-old Kevin Dunham has pleaded guilty to preparing false W-2 forms on a typewriter in his cell and producing other handwritten forms in the names of other inmates. Those were sent to the inmates’ families, which then made them claims to the IRS and shared the money with the inmates and Durham.

Dunham ran the scheme in 2008 and 2009 while he was held at the Farmington Correctional Center and the Western Missouri Correctional Center.
