The Missouri Tigers held their first practice for the 2012 season. The team was in helmets and shorts. James Franklin looked good, showing no ill-effects from shoulder surgery. T.J. Moe tweaked his hamstring about six weeks ago. He wore a red pullover jersey, limiting his action. He did stretch and run and he’s listed as day-to-day. Running back Henry Josey, who suffered that horrific knee injury, runs well, but head coach Gary Pinkel says its still wait and see on whether or not he’ll redshirt this season. Dorial Green Beckham, the top recruit out of high school last year, had one pass thrown his way in 7 on 7 drills from Corbin Berkstresser, 45 yards down the sideline. DGB gained some separation from his defender, by pushing off, but dropped the ball.

T.J. Moe, Elvis Fisher, Will Ebner and Zaviar Gooden were named team captains.

Moe spilled the beans that James Franklin injured his shoulder earlier in the 2011 season and played through pain.  In fact, Moe says there were times when Franklin couldn’t walk until a Wednesday before a game, but added that was mostly his own fault for trying to running over defenders.  One of Franklin’s rehab assignments over the summer?  Ping pong.
