The Royals put pressure on Seattleā€™s bullpen on Sunday afternoon, but came up short losing 7-6 and getting swept by the Mariners. It was the first four game sweep at home for Seattle since the 2001 season.

The Royals were also swept by the Mariners in four games in May of 2001 and the Mariners did it again later that year, when they won 116 games. That was the last time Seattle accomplished that feat at home.

The Royals were down 5-2 in the eighth, when Billy Butler picked up an RBI and Eric Hosmer singled in two runs to tie the game at 5-5, but the Mariners responded in the bottom of the inning.

Reliever Jose Mijares fielded a bunt and threw wildly allowing the go-ahead run to score. Casper Wells added an RBI single to put Seattle up 7-5. Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar cut the lead to one with an RBI single in the ninth.

An MRI revealed no damage to Mike Moustakas’ knee and he will be with the team on Tuesday against Cleveland.Ā  Moose got hurt on Saturday after making a play at third.Ā  He dove for the ball and hurt his knee as he rolled to make a throw to first.
