Jackie Stiles

Former Missouri State women’s basketball star Jackie Stiles has been hired as an assistant women’s basketball coach for Loyola Marymount University.  She will be joining former Bears star Charity Elliott, who was named the head coach in April.  Elliott played for the Bears final four team in 1992.  Stiles was a three-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year who led the Bears back to the Final four in 2001.  Stiles may be remembered by Bears fans for his 41 point game in an 81-71 upset over Duke in the Sweet 16 that year.   Stiles was also Rookie of the Year in the WNBA in 2001.  She retired from basketball in 2006.

“I couldn’t be happier to announce the addition of Jackie Stiles to the LMU Lion women’s basketball family,” said Elliott. “As a player, she reached the highest levels of success and I know that she will make a tremendous impact on our program and players. Her work ethic is unmatched and because we’ve known each other for so long, the loyalty and trust is automatic. We are looking forward to watching her share her expertise with our players and I have no doubt that she’ll do a great job of connecting both with our players and the LMU community.”

Stiles also won both the Wade Trophy, as selected by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport, and the Broderick Cup as the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. She remains the only NCAA Division I women’s basketball player to score more than 1,000 points in a season (finishing with 1,062) and is one of just three players across all divisions to do so. Her 3,393 career points scored is also the NCAA women’s basketball career scoring record (all divisions).
