The Milwaukee Brewers led 2-0 heading into the ninth inning, but closer John Axford blew his sixth game of the season as the Cardinals rallied for three to pull out a 3-2 win. Allen Craig came up with the big hit, a bloop single to left, snapping an 0 for 12 slump while pushing across the go ahead run.

The Brewers took the lead on Corey Hart’s 17th homer in the seventh and Ryan Braun’s double in the eighth. In the ninth, with two outs and a runner on first, Axford gave up an infield single to Rafael Furcal that was poorly played by third baseman Aramis Ramirez. Axford then missed bad on a 3-2 breaking ball to Skip Schumaker, loading the bases. With two strikes on him, Matt Holliday slapped a single through the hole between first and second tying the game. Craig followed with his game winner.

Milwaukee’s Mike Fiers was in line for the win after pitching seven scoreless innings. Cardinals starter Lance Lynn struck out 10 and was charged with Hart’s homer in seven innings of work. Jason Motte picked up the win.
